I am pleased to announce that my C# client library project for accessing Google AJAX Search API is now available on Codeplex.
Following is the link to my project.
http://c4gasa.codeplex.com
I have named it C4GASA (Client For Google AJAX Search API). The USP of my project is that the JSON response from Google is deserialized and exposed using strongly typed data.
Please download and try it out. I have packaged a small utility that demonstrates the usage of this library.
Do post you feedback on the site.
Wish you all a happy and successful new year ahead.
Hope that this new year will clear the gloom that pervaded whole of 2008 and will bring joy to one and all.

2009 Greeting Card
I have created the greeting card using the photos that I had taken in 2008. These locations are Venice Beach (California), Under construction flyover on Hosur Road and the NICE road.
Wow!
That was my first response when I got their products and got them working instantly. I had ordered these products through indiatimes.com after seeing them on Young Turks (CNBC TV18).
I am a kind of gadget freak. I own a lot of them, but these are different. They are going to be with me all the time. OK, enough of the suspense, I am talking about the mobile chargers that can charge your mobile from sources other than the wall socket. I have got the ones that charge your mobile from USB port, Hand crank and Bike battery. The hand crank one has two modes. You can charge your mobile either by rotating the crank or rolling the enclosing wheel on some surface.
Although, I had one hand crank mobile charger that I had bought in US in 2006, I rarely used it as it was little uncomfortable to use. But, the one from IdeaForge was very well designed and easy to use.
Everything from the packaging to the usability of these chargers has impressed me a lot.
Here I am writing on 8/8/8.
Today’s date happens to be most rare occurrences in the history. This also is the day when Beijing Olympics got triggered with a huge celebrations.
I had realized about this particular combination of numbers in the today’s date only yesterday. The previous occations when the such similar numbers occured in the date, I did something significant to mark it as a memorable date in my life. Here is some nostalgia about it
On 9/9/99, I had applied for my first LIC Insurance policy. 9th September also happens to be my sister’s birthday.
On 2/2/2, boarded flight on my first trip to Italy on a official business trip.
On 6/6/6, I was in US on project work and had my first live status meeting with our then customers. I came to know about a new movie being released on that day (666) to match with the story described in the Original Omen series. The Omen series is part of my favourite movies list.
On 7/7/7, I bought an HP color printer and also applied for a new LIC insurance policy to etch this date in my life, thoush I was planning to apply for this since a long time. It took me lot of time after submitting the application to get the policy in hands, but I made sure that the policy date is set to 7/7/7.
On 8/8/8, it is memorable day for sure. Our team had a meeting with my CEO and CTO and our team’s work was appreciated. To make to more special, I bought a couple of books (including Reply’s belive it or not) to celebrate this day.
Also, I am writing this blog to celebrate this day and etch it on my online presence.
I have already started planning for celebrating 9/9/9
Do share your experiences from this special day.
I have come across this cool sidebar for XP which gives you the experience of working in Vista (minus the performance issues
).
Almost all the default Vista-like gadgets in addition to some new gadgets are available in the package. Following is the link to this sidebar installer.
http://www.thoosje.com/sidebar.html
I have tried this sidebar and is really cool. Only the weather gadget seems to support only US weather.
There is also a package to transform Windows XP machine completely to get Vista looks. Following is the link to this Transformation pack.
http://www.thoosje.com/vista-transformation-pack.html
I haven’t tried this transformation pack yet. Just beware that it will replace most of the Windows default resources. You might not be able to revert back if you install this pack.
Following are some points that I have captured from a program on TV few months back.
These points might be useful if you are thinking about doing MBA in the near future.
- Do it from a premier institution, like IIM.
Try to do MBA from a well known institution. This will have higher value in the market.
- Be prepared for doing that.
As you will be moving into a new environment and will have lot of new challenges, you need to be prepared well for that.
- Doing MBA now might help in
-
Time management
-
People management
- After 20+ years in deciding for higher positions
My take on this is that you can develop the first 2 skills even without doing an MBA.
- If your goal is only to make great piece of code then MBA might not be for you.
This is very important. If you just want to be techie and live like that for the rest of your life then MBA is not for you.
- 3+ years of industry experience pre-requisite.
Most of the premier institutes ask for a 3+ years of industry experience as a pre-requisite. The number of years might depend on the institute.
- Initial payments might be higher but reduce over years.
Don’t expect the same growth to continue over the years. You will have to keep yourself updated over the years.
- Check “Money to the pocket” not “Cost to the company”.
This is true for even the IT jobs. Most of the news about the MBA pay packages should be taken with a pinch of salt.
There may be lot of other factors involved in making the decision. These are just a few of them. Do let me know your thoughts on this.
I was looking for such site since a long time. Came across this today which gives you status of traffic on Bangalore roads overlayed on a map.
http://www.btis.in/live.htm
If you use a Mobile phone with GPRS connection, you watch this on your phone using the following URL
http://www.btis.in/maponphone.htm
Today I have migrated all my blogs from spaces.live.com. There were some formatting issues but will sort them out soon.
I will be blogging from today from my website. (BLOG URL : http://blog.shashijeevan.net)
This is a step towards making my website center of all my internet activity.
I am planning to publish lot of posts on various topics. Hope that this will be a great success.
Good news. I have installed WordPress on my website. I am in the process of migrating my blogs from spaces.live.com to my own blog site. Once it is up and running, I will post all my blogs from my permanant blog site.
It will be available at http://blog.shashijeevan.net
I will also write a posts on “how to host your own website” and also on “setting up your own blog site”.
Keep checking
Sometime back I had started exploring the power of Mobile internet connectivity when I started using the Airtel Mobile GPRS service. Even though this service was available since a long time, it had become affordable only recently. I use only the “Mobile Office” option which gives me unlimited downloads option.
My first hit at this was checking my Yahoo! mail which I could do very easily using the Web Browser that came with my mobile phone (Nokia N73 Music Edition). I could also check my office mail using the Outlook Webmail URL from my mobile. Well that is great but why on earth anyone would like to spend one’s leisure time checking office mails man
My next stop is at enabling Yahoo! messenger. The default messenger application present in N73 was not useful. After little googling, I got the “Yahoo! Go” application from Yahoo!’s website. This right away gives Yahoo’s search, mail and messenger features in one bundle. I could not find an option to log off from Yahoo! Mail though.
That was interesting, what about Google. After little more googling I got the link for Google Mobile Apps (http://www.google.com/mobile/index.html). Here I got each of major features of Google as stand-alone applications that are customized for Mobile phones. Google search app makes search available from the main screen on the phone and enables search with fever key strokes. I was amazed by the speed of the Google Maps app which not only gives you quick zoom options but also shows you your current location (using the location of the nearest GSM tower). It gives you even more accurate position if you use an external GPS device.
There are some more applications which I have come across but I am yet to explore.
Fring (fring.com) - Allows making free phone calls over GPRS and integrates with popular IM clients.
Morange (morange.com) - Almost the same features as of that of Fring but the voice calls are not free.
Qik (qik.com) - Allows live streaming of video from mobile phone to web.
I could not find a free EMI calculator application for mobiles. That will be very useful for people who are planning to purchase house/land and can do a quick calculation of EMI on their mobiles.
